Not fish, nor meat!
Dog and cat food with insects is an important source of protein and contains essential nutrients and minerals. Once you get to grips with the subject, it quickly becomes clear that insect protein brings with it a range of benefits.
The eco-friendly breeding
For our planet, an insect-based diet is a real breath of fresh air. Studies suggest that insect protein can reduce the environmental impact of breeding and food from
Insects can improve. Insects require almost hardly any resources to be raised, in about 10% of the energy consumption for the same protein yield as commercial meat production. Also from an ethical point of view, the keeping and breeding is less questionable compared to cattle, pigs or poultry. These are far more sensitive and suffer from factory farming, but insects prefer the companionship of their fellow species.
Insect protein is hypoallergenic and free of antibiotic residues
Insects are not only impressive because of their high quality and good digestibility, they are particularly digestible and have virtually no allergy potential, making them hypoallergenic. Particularly noteworthy is the possibility of use in nutritionally sensitive four-legged friends, for them the change to insect protein can sometimes work wonders. In addition, you contribute to a positive climate footprint. The use of antibiotics is an integral part of
factory farming. The larvae of the insects do not get sick as we know it in the classical sense, so their breeding does not require antibiotics and therefore have no residues of drugs to detect.
High production costs and cross-reactions in insects?
There are currently no standardized, automated breeding conditions for insects, based on the demand, there is still a need for action here in any case. The only risk we know of
is a minimal risk of cross-reaction with shellfish in humans, however this has not been adequately researched. On the bright side, this risk is almost non-existent in dogs and cats.
Insects are the protein source of the future
Insects serve us as a sustainable source of protein and have important amino acids. Due to their categorization as livestock, they must be provided with feed and not fed food industry waste. Insect food is especially suitable for dogs and cats with allergies, intolerances or a general sensitive digestion. In addition, insects have a high biological value, are resource-saving and sustainable.
YES, insects are neither fish nor meat, but carry all the benefits, so let’s take another step towards a positive and sustainable future.
